Martin Kerr might be the only artist in the world to have played 400 live shows during the pandemic. When Covid-19 cancelled all his touring and festival plans for the foreseeable future, he launched his now signature Stay Home Street Concerts as a way of continuing to bring music and joy to the people who needed it the most.
From driveways, balconies, and front lawns, every show finished with the whole street singing ‘You’re Amazing’, the uplifting, instantly singable hit from Kerr’s latest album. (‘You’re Amazing’ has earned radio play across Canada, the UK and the Netherlands and climbed to #4 on the Spotify Viral Chart.)
Martin’s latest album “Grateful” features a long list of collaborating artists. Celeigh Cardinal, Cab’Ral, and Josh Sahunta, among many others, make up the supporting cast on Kerr’s latest body of work. “Making an album celebrating collaboration and bringing people together felt like the right thing to do when so many people are feeling the loss of community due to the effects of the pandemic” said Kerr.
Genre-hopping from folk to hip-hop, pop, soul, funk and back to his intimate singer-songwriter vibe, each song has a different flavour but a common thread of supporting each other through hard times. The first single, Delicate Love features R&B singer Josh Sahunta, a top-3 finalist from the 2020 CBC searchlight contest.
In dark times we all need to find hope. Somehow, against all the odds, Martin Kerr is bringing music to people face-to-face, building community one street, one song at a time.
