Allen Morrow

Allen has resided in La Ronge for a number of years. To leave the north would be to leave behind a large part of himself and his family structure and culture, something he does not plan on doing.  He originates from Timber Bay, Saskatchewan, and is a member of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Allen uses mainly acrylic paints on canvas. He chooses strong colours, to signify the strength and integrity of the aboriginal culture, which is the focus of most of his artwork.  He is very thankful for the knowledge shared by other artists and is always happy to pass on what he knows to those who may also somehow be interested. The La Ronge Arts Council and its members are among those who have benefited from Allen’s willingness to share.

Prior to attending university, Allen painted without having attended any formal art classes. Since his graduation he appreciates a whole new aspect of art, and of life in general. “Art is not just painting,” he says, “but a perfect opportunity to view life from a metaphysical view point.”

Allen’s work can be seen in many collections and in many locations around the town of La Ronge. It can be purchased at the ‘Woodlands and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre’, at Giant Tiger, or at the Otter Lake General Store.
